Wash'n'Go Tips for 4C Curlistas

June 26, 2020  /  Michelle

IMG_3224.JPG

Listen, 4C ladies - we know that your curls can take extra time and, if we’re being honest, upper arm strength. But Type 4 Curls are one of our favorite hair types to work with because the results are SO satisfying! We want to help you fall in love with your amazing natural texture, so here are our top tips for styling your kinky curls on wash day:

  1. Do Everything in Sections - washing, detangling, adding styling products. Working with smaller sections helps to ensure your products are evenly distributed and your curls turn out uniformly

  2. Use your Tangle Teezer to help distribute products to each section. Add each product then gently comb from root-to-ends to help saturate your hair without getting clumps of crusty products

  3. Prioritize Moisture! Type 4 Curls need the most hydration and moisture replenishment. Stock up on hydrating lines (like Ouidad’s Curl Quencher line) and leave-in conditioners to eliminate frizz. Add a hydration mask to your curl routine as often as once per week

  4. Wait to shape and pick out your curls until they are completely dry. Manipulating your curls while they are wet or damp can cause frizz

  5. Avoid blowdrying at all costs. Air drying is the best option for uniform, frizz-free curls. If you’re in a rush, wait until the last possible minute to diffuse and focus on your ends only

Scalp Care 101

June 12, 2020  /  Michelle

IMG_5559.JPG

We talk about healthy hair care all the time, but what about your scalp? It is just as important, if not more important, to check the health of your scalp to ensure healthy hair growth! Here are our top tips for caring for your scalp!

  • Your scalp is full of pores just like your face! Healthy pores lead to happy, shiny hair but an unhappy scalp can show in your tresses. Your first shampoo should be like your facial cleanser - gently scrub your scalp in circular motions making sure to cover the entire surface area. Don’t forget the nape of your neck and behind your ears - two areas that are commonly neglected

  • A dry cuticle can translate to dull hair, and those with curly hair have smaller cuticles that are especially prone to dryness and fragile hair. Follow your first shampoo with a more gentle cleanser that focuses on the ends so you don’t dry out your scalp too much

  • Never wash your hair with hot water! Just like our faces are more sensitive to extreme temperatures, so is our scalp. Use luke-warm or even cool water to rinse your scalp and avoid dryness

  • If you are prone to dryness, ask your stylist to recommend a serum that can help moisturize your scalp without clogging your pores. Leave-in conditioners are great for protecting the ends of your hair, but your scalp will likely need something different

  • If you are regularly applying products to your hair when styling, consider a Buildup Buster treatment to gently detoxify your scalp and address any buildup

We're Back!

May 15, 2020  /  Michelle

Team Versus is BACK!

Our long awaited return has arrived and we cannot wait to see all of your lovely faces! With careful consideration, we have made the decision to wait two weeks following the official start of Phase I Reopening to make sure it is safe for our team and our clients to proceed. We are planning to be back in action on Monday, June 1st with several changes that allow us to keep you safe and healthy.

What Will Be Different?

  • Social Distancing : Our salon will be limited to a maximum capacity of six people, including staff. This means we will have two stylists per shift with one client at a time each.

  • Personal Protective Equipment : Our staff will be required to wear personal protective equipment like masks, face shields, and disposable smocks. Clients will also be required to wear masks.

  • By Appointment Only : We will no longer be able to service walk-in clients, please call ahead.

  • Scheduling : We are changing our hours of operation to allow for more availability and sanitization practices in between each client appointment.

How Can I Schedule an Appointment?

Once we have been able to reschedule our guests whose appointments were impacted by the quarantine restrictions, we will reopen online booking for your convenience. After June 1st, you may also call the salon as usual to book your appointment. Please note that due to extremely limited availability and high demand, deposits will be required on all appointments at the time of booking.

What Can I Expect When I Arrive For My Appointment?

  1. We will be sending you a virtual consultation form that must be completed before your appointment!

  2. When you arrive, please remain in your vehicle to call the salon and let us know you’re here.

  3. We will give you further instruction on completing a wellness checklist and a temperature reading. It is imperative that all of our staff and guests are healthy.

  4. You will be asked to wear a mask that covers your mouth and nose for the duration of your service. They must secure behind the ears and cannot tie behind your head.

  5. To keep our stylists on time so that we can follow our social distancing guidelines and allow for cleaning shifts between client appointments, it is imperative that you arrive to your appointment on time. Please confirm that you have scheduled for all the appointments you’ll be requesting so that we can allot enough time for your stay with us!

  6. There will be no guests allowed in our salon. If you are booking an appointment for a child under 16 years old or require assistance during your service, please let us know at least 48-hours in advance so that we may plan accordingly.

The Next Available Appointment is Far Away. How Can I Get By Until Then?

We will be doing our best to accommodate appointment requests while also abiding by CDC guidelines for safety and social distancing. We are happy to restock your home glam bar with your favorite products - just give us a call! We can arrange for take-out style pickup or ship right to your home.

If you would like to be on a waitlist to be contacted in case of last minute cancellations, you can also request this by calling us at 757-200-8890 after June 1st.

Quarantine Hair Hacks

April 17, 2020  /  Michelle

VersusSalon-2.jpg

While we’re all stuck at home finding ways to keep ourselves busy, we may as well work on our #HealthyHairGoals am I right!? Here are our favorite Quarantine Hair Hacks:

  1. Spa Day Deep Conditioning Treatment : After a thorough cleansing and scalp scrub, generously coat your hair in your favorite treatment and comb through for even distribution. Then, place a plastic cap or shower cap over your hair and let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing out with cool water. If you don’t have a masque or deep conditioner at home already, you can use your regular conditioner!

  2. Take a Break from Heat Tools : Since you’re going to be sporting your best pajamas for the next few weeks, may as well stay off the heat styling and give your hair a break! Put your flat irons and curling rods away and see if you notice any changes in your hair.

  3. Assess Your Wash Day Habits : A time like this is perfect for testing out new hair care routines and styling ideas. See how long you can go without washing your hair and notice what happens. Is it growing faster? You can trial-and-error until you find what works for your hair when you don’t have a strict weekly routine to abide by.

  4. Practice your Braiding Skills : Braids are a great way to give your hair a break from heat tools and ponytail tension. Work on your french braiding skills - practice makes perfect!

  5. Create a Versus Inspiration Pinterest Board : Visit the Versus Salon Pinterest page and create a new inspiration board based on the looks we love. These will be perfect for brainstorming how to switch it up when the salon re-opens!

  6. Catch up on Versus Salon Blog Posts : Did you know we post weekly blog posts with hair tips, inspiration ideas, and frequently asked questions? Browse through and see what you learn!

  7. Schedule your End Trim for Post-Quarantine : Book your next appointment online so you can be well-prepared for normalcy. We anticipate very busy books when we’re able to reopen, so it’s best to get on the schedule now!
