Frequently Asked Questions re: Natural Hairstyles

July 31, 2020  /  Michelle

How long will my style last?

That depends on the client, the care taken to preserve the style, and your overall lifestyle. It also depends on the history of your hair. For example, clients who are getting their hair Silk Pressed every 2-weeks will typically be able to last 2-weeks until their next refresh. If you are straightening your natural hair for the first time, you will likely only get a week out of your style because your hair has not yet been “trained” to lay flat. On average, your natural style should last anywhere from 1-3 weeks.

What do I do when I go to bed?

This depends on the style you’ve had done, but it is always good practice to sleep with a silk scarf or pillowcase to keep your style locked down while you sleep. For straight styles, try wrapping your hair around your head and loosely securing with clips before adding your silk scarf. For curly styles, use clips to loosely secure your curls (pin curling) then add a silk scarf.

What if I work out/sweat a lot?

Clients are are very active and sweat a lot will likely need added products and routines to preserve their style and keep their scalp fresh. Your stylist can recommend products like dry shampoos and refreshing oils to help your hair hold to your lifestyle.

When do I need to come back?

This is dependent on your unique hair needs. Some clients may get the most benefit from every-other-week visits to maintain their style and the health of their hair. Other clients may only need once-per-month visits or quarterly maintenance trims to ensure their hair and scalp remain at optimal health. Our stylists prioritize healthy hair, so we will work with you on a healthy hair care plan to meet your lifestyle, needs, and budget!

How the Summer Sun Affects Your Hair

July 24, 2020  /  Michelle

Did you know that the summer sun can damage your hair? It is important to take extra measures to protect your locks during the summer months. Here’s what you should know:

  1. Just like the sun causes dry skin, the same happens to your hair with too much exposure. Add a moisturizing masque like Melt Into Moisture by DevaCurl to your weekly routine if you’re spending lots of time outside

  2. We often forget to protect our scalp with the same care that we protect the rest of our skin. Use a spray sunscreen on your scalp or add a hat to your look to protect against sunburn and dry scalp

  3. If you’ve had a color service or are rocking a blonde look, you’ll notice your color begin to change or fade based on your summer activities. Talk to your stylist about the best products for your color to prevent this summer bummer

What You Should Know Before Coloring Your Curls

July 17, 2020  /  Michelle

We love creating fun color looks for your curls, but there are some important things for you to consider before you decide to do a color overhaul!

  1. Color services will stretch your curls out. Following your color appointment, you’ll notice a more loose curl and you may require a stronger hold gel to strengthen your curl pattern

  2. Coloring your hair is dehydrating, and curls already need more moisture than other hair types. You will notice more dryness and a need for intensive moisture. Make sure you’re using a color-safe leave-in conditioner

  3. Dryness leads to frizz, so you might require an additional moisturizing product in your wash’n’go routine to fight the frizz

  4. We always recommend following up two weeks after your color service for a protein treatment to restrengthen your curls that are often compromised during color services

One Month Update

July 10, 2020  /  Michelle

It has been a little over one month since we re-opened from the COVID Quarantine, and what a strange new world it is.

To keep our clients and our team members safe, we instituted several new policies that have been put in place since our reopening:

  • All clients and staff must wear masks at all times

  • All clients and staff receive temperature checks on entry and must be below 99.8

  • To allow social distancing, we have split our teams into morning and afternoon shifts, allowing us to limit the amount of people in the salon at once

  • We are no longer taking walk-in appointments or allowing guests so that we can ensure social distancing guidelines are kept

  • Deposits are required on all appointments to ensure that we are scheduling as efficiently as possible while we have limited availability

We want to thank all of our clients who have been patient and understanding with us, not only as we have changed policies but also as we have navigated the change with minimal notice. We appreciate all of your continued love and support! It feels good to be back doing what we love and seeing your smiling faces every day!

We will continue to take whatever measures necessary to ensure the safety of all our guests and team members.

xoxo
