Salon Consultations

Did you know that we offer FREE consultations?

While all of our salon services begin with a consultation, many inquiring clients contact us with questions about their curls, healthy hair regimens, and quotes on color transformations. The challenge of our team is to offer the best possible advice for these clients without actually seeing their hair. Each client has a unique set of needs based on their individual hair and history. So who should come in for a consultation?

·     Clients Who Are Hesitant to Try a New Service: Your stylist can utilize a consultation to recommend the best plan of action to meet your needs, and walk you through each step of the process so that when you arrive for your services, you are well-prepared and comfortable with the process

·     Clients Receiving a Color Transformation or Color Correction: Based on your hair history and natural color, color transformations can sometimes require multiple steps to achieve your goals. A consultation allows your stylist to create a game plan and ensure enough time is allotted for your color service appointment

·     Clients Receiving Braids for the First Time: Our braider is careful to ensure any braiding services are completed with the health of your hair in mind, so it’s important that any necessary treatments are agreed upon beforehand to protect your natural tresses. This also allows for you to prepare by making the right purchases for any add-in hair that is needed, or for us to order what you need in advance.

·     Clients Experiencing Hair Loss, Thinning, or Extreme Dry Scalp: some of these concerns can be health-related issues that require a medical diagnosis. While we are hair experts, it’s important that your stylist knows of any medical issues that may be contributing to the health of your hair. Only then can your stylist make the most educated decision about the best plan of action for your look

What to expect during your consultation…

Your stylist may ask you what your daily styling routine is, which products you use regularly, and what you are hoping to change about your current look. You should come with a list of products you use as well as the dates of any color or chemicals that have been put in your hair in the last five years. Your stylist will discuss the health of your hair, styling options for you, and recommendations for a salon regimen to achieve your goals. They’ll also ensure you are familiar with the pricing of the services you are interested in so you can be fully prepared for the day of your appointment!

Thinking About Bangs?

Fall is the season for bangs and we are here for it!

To go for a haircut with bangs or not is always a question that clients struggle with. While there are many different ways to cut and style a look with bangs, there are a few important considerations to make before taking the leap...

  • Bangs Take Maintenance : No matter what your natural pattern or texture is, styling bangs requires additional steps to keep them properly styled and prevent the "Justin Bieber Hair Flip" from disrupting your day and driving you crazy! If you want to try on some bangs, prepare to blow-dry them regularly, usually with a roundbrush, to get them to fall correctly.
  • Fast Growth : Bangs tend to grow out quickly and you'll need to come to the salon more frequently to get them trimmed. Please, please, please do not trim your own bangs at home! Fixing trims-gone-bad is a difficult task for stylists! We only charge $10 for a bang trim - just give us a call.
  •  Because bangs tend to rest on the forehead and come into contact with skin all day, bangs can appear oily and lose their volume on warm or high-activity days. We recommend keeping a travel-size Dry Shampoo on hand to give your bangs a quick refresh before you fall victim to sticky bangs.
  • When you've decided you're finished with the bang life and are ready to grow them out into a new shape, this can take time and the shape of your overall haircut may need to be altered to blend in your growing layers. Your stylist can help you determine the best way to grow your bangs out without awkward shapes or obvious lines.

DEVACURL RESCUE!

Imagine This: You leave your first DevaCut appointment feeling a new confidence in your curls and your cut! You have stocked up on the DevaCurl products used by your stylist to create such luscious curls, but you get to your first wash day following your appointment and completely blank on which products to use, when, and how!

TIP #1 : Take your DevaCurl products with you into the shower! Curl products should always be added to soaking wet hair, never towel-dried.

TIP #2 : If you want to refresh your curls between washes, add water first, then use a curl refresher like Mist-er Right if your curls need an extra kick.

TIP #3 : If you are struggling with your new curl routine, give us a call! Your stylist or one of our other DevaCurl stylists can walk you through the routine again and help troubleshoot why you might not be getting the results you desire!

Keep Calm, Curlista! Here’s a general breakdown of using the DevaCurl products at home to keep your tresses in check. Remember, your stylist may cocktail certain products together or offer unique suggestions for your individual texture, but this should help remind you!

STEP ONE : Cleanser + Conditioner : Your stylist may recommend leaving your conditioner in if you’re experiencing extreme dryness or a need for moisture in your curls! Your Leave-In Conditioner (like Heaven in Hair) will follow Step One. Pro Tip: The conditioning step is when we begin to define the curls, so this is a good time to detangle or use a wide-tooth comb to separate tangled curls.

STEP TWO: Curl Creams : Using the raking method, finger comb your Wave Maker, Supercream or Styling Cream through your curls to encourage definition. This is also a good time to use your Frizz-Free Volumizing Foam at the root to encourage lift.

STEP THREE : Gels : Scrunch in your gel for curl hold. Remember, fingers encourage frizz, so scrunch a section of hair only once and hold for a few seconds. If you’ve been advised to use B’Leave In, this can be mixed with another gel for hold and curl plumping.

STEP FOUR : Follow with your Set It Free finishing spray, Mirror Curls Shine Serum, or Flexible Hold Hairspray for shine and hold.

Each DevaCurl routine is customized to your unique curl pattern, hair texture, and common complaints, but this should help remind you of the order of products that your Deva-stylist prescribed and how to use them.

Still having trouble? Give us a call or drop us a note on the “Contact Us” page with your list of products and we’ll be sure to help you!
